Erin Kretzer Balances Athletics and Academics at Father McGivney

GLEN CARBON - Erin Kretzer is a natural leader.

For her hard work, Erin Kretzer is a Student of the Month for Father McGivney Catholic High School.

Kretzer, a senior, has been a player on the school’s soccer team since her freshman year and currently serves as captain. She is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes organization.

It takes a lot of work to balance school and sports, but she makes this look easy. She was recently named an Illinois State Scholar and received the Silver Medallion Award, honors that put her in the top of her class.

Kretzer represents and advocates for her peers as a student ambassador. She goes above and beyond to make sure her classmates feel heard.

She is also a part of the Green Griffins organization and the National Honor Society, which requires high grades and many hours of community service. Kretzer gives back through her work with the Parks and Rec crew in Edwardsville and as a volunteer at Metro East Humane Society.

In her limited free time, Kretzer has a part-time job and plays club soccer. She enjoys fishing, reading, working out and spending time with her friends.

She knows exactly what she’s planning to do after graduation. Just as they do during her games, her teachers and loved ones will be cheering her on.

“I'm going to Quincy University to play soccer,” she shared.
