Civic Memorial Rallies Past Gibault Catholic 8-5

BETHALTO - Civic Memorial Lady Eagles battled back from an early deficit to secure an 8-5 victory over Gibault Catholic on Tuesday.

Civic Memorial struck first in the opening inning when Paige Winship delivered a two-run single to give the Lady Eagles an early edge. Gibault Catholic responded in the second, capitalizing on an error along with RBI efforts from Kennedy Cooper, Karina Jerkatis, and others to take a 3-2 lead.

The Lady Eagles evened things up in the third inning as Allison Friedel came through with a clutch single down the left field line. Gibault regained the lead in the fourth behind Grace Kessler’s RBI single and a bases-loaded walk by Chloe Lancaster, making it 5-3.

Civic Memorial answered right back in the bottom half of the fourth, tying the game at 5-5 thanks to an RBI single from Maria Phillips. The momentum fully shifted in the fifth inning when Dakota Robinson sparked the go-ahead rally with an RBI single. A passed ball and a run-scoring double by Zoey Hunt added insurance, pushing the lead to 8-5.

Olivia Monroe was strong in relief, earning the win after tossing five innings while allowing just two unearned runs on four hits, striking out four. Robinson started in the circle, giving up three unearned runs over two innings. For Gibault Catholic, Lauren Lanham allowed three runs (none earned) over three innings.

At the plate, Civic Memorial totaled 10 hits. Monroe led the way with a perfect 3-for-3 performance, while Robinson added two hits. Winship drove in a team-high two runs.

Gibault Catholic was led by Molly Steibel, who recorded two hits. Kessler, Jerkatis, Lancaster, and Cooper each drove in a run. Despite drawing eight walks as a team, Gibault Catholic couldn’t hold off Civic Memorial’s late surge.
