ALTON - Community members can support local beautification efforts through upcoming events sponsored by Pride Inc.
As an organization, Pride Inc. works with the Alton and Godfrey communities to maintain garden beds, pick up litter, and advocate for beautification. People can support their work by donating to them during their 7–11 a.m. roadblock on Friday, April 10, 2026, at Humbert Road and Tolle Lane, followed by their Citywide Litter Cleanup from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, April 11. They will also host their 60th anniversary celebration on April 23, 2026, and everyone is welcome to attend.
“We do a roadblock twice a year,” said Executive Director Pat Stewart. “We strut our stuff on the corners of Tolle and Humbert Lane from 7–11 in the morning and just ask for donations and give people the opportunity to recognize some of the important work that we do.”
People on their morning commutes are invited to donate a few dollars toward Pride’s mission.
On April 11, 2026, the organization will host the Citywide Litter Cleanup, one of their most popular events of the year. People are encouraged to register online, or you can register and pick up supplies on April 11 at 200 W. 3rd Street, Hellrung Park, or the College Avenue Presbyterian Church.
Participants will clean up assigned areas throughout Alton. Stewart and Board members Pat Ackman and Roxanne Whittman agree that the event is a great way to tangibly support local beautification efforts. They added that the main goal is to keep people from littering in the first place.
“It’s not just the act of picking up the trash. It’s the education to quit littering,” Stewart said. “That’s the message we really need to get out there. Keep that cup in your car until you get home instead of throwing it out the window.”
On April 23, the annual celebration will commemorate 60 years of Pride Inc. at Lewis and Clark Community College. The reception begins at 5 p.m. and dinner is served at 6 p.m. You can click here to find information about purchasing tickets, a table, or screen advertising.
The event will be a way for Pride Incorporated members and neighbors to reflect on the organization's work over the past 60 years. Leadership will also share some information about their upcoming projects.
“Hopefully you can make it to our celebration,” Whittman said. “There will be some online advertising along with some of our beautification projects that we have completed over this past year. We’ll be announcing some of our new beautification projects. That will kind of be a highlight for the evening. And then we’ll be recognizing all the awardees for the night and just pretty much a social hour and talking about our community and what needs to be done and what we’ve already accomplished.”
Ackman added that Pride Incorporated will be part of this year’s Miles Davis Jazz Festival in May, and they hope to see many people at this event, too. She also noted that community members will begin receiving Pride Eye Awards in the coming months. Every house in Godfrey and Alton is eligible to receive an award.
“The Pride people will be out beginning in May. We cover more than 50 areas between Alton and Godfrey. All of the Pride Board members have to cover those areas,” she explained.
The Pride Inc. Board members typically give out around 7,000 Pride Eye Awards throughout the summer.
