EDWARDSVILLE - Although the Granite City High Warriors' losing streak has now reached three straight, the team is still battling and hanging tough. The Warriors lost to Edwardsville on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, by a score of 7-4.

The Warriors won their opener over Waterloo Gibault 2-1, then lost to Roxana 7-3 and to Alton 8-4 before playing Edwardsville.

"Yeah, we've battled," Granite City head coach Scott Smallie said of the contest against Edwardsville. "This is a really tough stretch of our schedule. We play one of the most competitive schedules, and we're going to keep grinding. We have practice coming the next couple of days, we'll come out and get better for next week, when we play three more very important regional games for us."

The Warriors' baseball team's goals and aspirations never change, and it's important to Smallie.

"The goals won't change," Coach Smallie said. "We just have to play a little better, and we've got to put a complete game together. Today, we took good at-bats, not so great in other areas. Our pitching was really good today, and we're striving to put together that perfect game to allow us to compete with anyone in the area."

A good sign against Edwardsville on Tuesday was from Connor Schaefer, who came on in the fourth inning in relief of starter Michael Terry, and pitched very well for the Warriors.

"Connor pitched well, Michael pitched well," Smallie said. "It was a very well-pitched game, and we have to do the other two phases to be successful, especially against a team like that."

The Granite coach remains very optimistic and confident that his team will do and see some good things happen as the season goes on.

"The confidence is still there," Smallie said. "This is the first game week of the season, we are still working on things at practice, we're still figuring things out. By the end of the season, we'll be ready to go."

Granite City slips to 1-3, and returns home to Babe Champion Field for games against Belleville East on Monday, Collinsville next Wednesday, and Belleville West on Apr. 2. All three games are set to start at 4:30 p.m.
