CARLINVILLE 9, GREENFIELD NORTHWESTERN 8 (8 INNINGS): Greenfield went into the seventh inning trailing Carlinville 5-3, but tied the game with two runs in the top of the seventh to force extra innings, then scored three runs in the top of the eighth to go ahead. The Cavaliers immediately scored four times in the home half to take the win at Loveless Park.
Drew Overton led Carlinville with two hits and two RBIs, while Colin McKinney fanned three on the mound.
The Cavies are now 2-0, while the Tigers go to 1-2.
ALTON 5, JERSEY 0: Alton scored all of its runs in the first three innings - two in the first and second, and one in the third - and went on to defeat Jersey on the road.
Jack Puent had two hits and an RBI for the Redbirds, while Donovan Ducey went all the way on the mound, striking out five. Maddox Vanausdoll had two hits for the Panthers, with Hayden LaPlant fanning eight.
Alton improves to 4-1, while Jersey slides to 3-2.
EAST ST. LOUIS 16, EAST ALTON-WOOD RIVER 1: After taking a 3-0 lead after the first two innings, East St. Louis scored seven runs in the third and six more in the fourth to win the season opener at home over EAWR.
Johnny Sesson had the only hit of the day for the Oilers, while Kale Carpenter drove in the only run. Austin Woods struck out four while on the mound.
The Flyers open their season 1-0, while EAWR goes to 0-3.
In other games played on Wednesday, O'Fallon got past Highland 18-3, Edwardsville defeated Granite City 7-4, Civic Memorial won over Mt. Vernon 13-9, Mascoutah defeated Belleville East 14-3. it was Belleville West over Breese Mater Dei Catholic 6-2, Valmeyer slipped past Okawville 6-4, Waterloo Gibault Catholic shut out Cahokia 11-0, and Freeburg trimmed Trenton Wesclin 16-0.

In the only match played on Wednesday, Belleville Althoff Catholic defeated Alton 25-8, 25-9.
