Jonathan L. Brown, 38, of Alton, was charged on March 10, 2026, with one count each of possession of a firearm by a repeat felony offender (a Class X felony), unlawful possession of weapons by a felon (a Class 2 felony), his fourth or subsequent offense of domestic battery (a Class 3 felony) and aggravated assault (a Class A misdemeanor).

Brown was allegedly knowingly in possession of a black semi-automatic handgun on Feb. 3, 2026, after previously being convicted of possessing a weapon as a felon in a prior case from 2021 and aggravated battery in another case from 2008, both in Madison County.

On the same date, Brown reportedly pointed the weapon at a family or household member and caused bodily harm to the same victim by committing an act of domestic battery against them. Charging documents note Brown had previously been convicted of domestic battery on three prior occasions, including twice in St. Clair County in 2006 and once in Madison County in 2021.

The Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office filed a petition to deny Brown’s pretrial release from custody in this case. Brown later waived his right to a detention hearing and submitted to pretrial detention.

The Bethalto Police Department presented the case against Brown, who currently remains in custody at the Madison County Jail.

All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
