Boys & Girls Club of Alton Dance Team Earns Top Honors, National Invitation at StarPower

The club’s in-house choreographed routines won special awards, top placements, and a Golden Ticket to the World Dance Championship in New Jersey.

ALTON — The Boys & Girls Club of Alton Dance Team delivered an outstanding performance at the StarPower Dance Competition, held March 19–22 in Collinsville, Illinois, earning multiple top honors, special awards, and a prestigious national invitation.

Under the direction of Ms. Jamirah Meeks, Club staff member and dance instructor, all routines were choreographed in-house—showcasing the talent, discipline, and creativity of Club youth.

The team’s group performance, “Show Da World,” earned the Entertainment Excellence Award, placed 5th overall, and received a coveted Golden Ticket invitation to the World Dance Championship in New Jersey (July 2026). The high-energy routine featured dancers Makayla Blankenship, Jae’Auna Edwards, Ivy McElroy, Amyrah Meeks, Zoe Phillips, Jordyn Smith, and Mila Wallace.

The small hip hop group performance, “Get Like Us,” earned the Swag for Days Award and placed 9th overall, highlighting the team’s strong stage presence and performance quality.

The trio performance, “Super Sonic,” featuring Makayla Blankenship, Amyrah Meeks, and Jordyn Smith, captured 1st Place Category Champion and placed 4th overall, demonstrating exceptional synchronization and technical skill.

In the duet category, “Better Together,” performed by Avaya Ewing and Amoura White (8yrs. old & under), received the Lit Up The Stage Award, recognizing standout performance and audience engagement.

Individual dancers also earned recognition for their solo performances. Jordyn S. and Amirah M. received 5-Star Premier Pins, while Mila W. earned a 5-Star Pin, reflecting excellence in individual technique and performance.

“These young performers represented our Club and our community with excellence, confidence, and heart,” said Womack, Executive Director. “We are incredibly proud of their hard work and the leadership of Ms. Meeks in developing their talent.”

The Boys & Girls Club of Alton continues to provide opportunities for young people to explore the arts, build confidence, and achieve success both on and off the stage. The Dance Team’s accomplishments at StarPower highlight the impact of quality programming and dedicated mentorship.
