BETHALTO - Riley Harshbarger is an impressive student.
Don't miss our top stories and need-to-know news everyday in your inbox.
For her accomplishments, Riley Harshbarger is a DD Homes Network Student of the Month for Civic Memorial High School.
Harshbarger, a senior, has played in the marching band, pep band, and percussion ensemble since her freshman year. She is also a member of the Tri-M Music Honor Society, an impressive achievement. Music is important to her and she enjoys going to concerts.
She is also a member of the Spanish Club and helps design sets for the school’s musicals and plays. She previously played soccer and tennis at CM.
It’s sometimes difficult to balance extracurriculars with academics, but Harshbarger does this gracefully. She is a member of the National Honor Society and the mathematics honor society Mu Alpha Theta. These memberships require high grades and many hours of community service, which Harshbarger achieves through volunteer work at the East Alton Rec Center.
She also works part-time and was named the Biology Student of the Year as a freshman. She recently received a Silver Medallion, which puts her at the top of her class.
In her limited free time, Harshbarger enjoys baking, reading, painting, drawing, biking, working out and shopping. She knows exactly what she wants to do after graduation, and her teachers and loved ones can’t wait to see her succeed.
“After graduation I plan to attend SIUE to major in pharmacy and minor in Spanish,” she shared.
She added that she is grateful to Ms. Parish for her Medical Occupation 2 program, which solidified Harshbarger’s choice to study pharmacy with hopes of working in an emergency department. She also thanks Mrs. Wood for her encouragement in Spanish class and her willingness to assign her extra novels in Spanish so she can expand her skills.
Harshbarger hopes to work in a hospital and volunteer her skills overseas.
Congratulations to Riley for this recognition by Civic Memorial High School and the DD Homes Network!
