Haine Announces 17-Year Sentence For Home Invasion, Aggravated Battery For Edwardsville Man

EDWARDSVILLE - Madison County State’s Attorney Tom Haine announced on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, that an Edwardsville man has been sentenced to 17 years in prison after a jury found him guilty of home invasion and aggravated battery in an attack at a Glen Carbon residence.

Circuit Judge Kyle Napp issued the sentence Monday to Timothy P. Rodgers, 40, of Edwardsville, according to Haine’s office. A jury in October found Rodgers guilty of entering the Glen Carbon home of his former father-in-law and attacking him.

Haine said Rodgers slammed the victim’s head against a tile floor, head-butted him and body-slammed him.

At a sentencing hearing Monday, Assistant State’s Attorney Gina McNabnay asked the judge to impose a sentence of 20 years in prison, arguing that Rodgers is violent and is a danger to the victim, the victim’s family, and the community.

Napp sentenced Rodgers to 12 years for home invasion and five years for aggravated battery, with the sentences to run concurrently.

The case was prosecuted by McNabnay and Assistant State’s Attorney Sean Williams. At trial, prosecutors argued that Rodgers was upset about his divorce with the victim’s daughter when he broke into the victim’s home on Dec. 20, 2021. Jurors rejected a defense argument that Rodgers was the victim of a setup orchestrated to put him at a disadvantage in family court.

Haine commended the prosecution team and the Glen Carbon Police Department, which conducted the investigation.

“No one should have to endure violence in their own home,” Haine said. “Protecting the safety of residents is the top priority for this office, as it is for the police agencies that serve our community."
