BETHALTO, — Behind six strong innings from starter Hudson Wesley, the Civic Memorial Eagles beat Southwestern 3-1 on Tuesday in Bethalto.
Civic Memorial scored first in the opening inning when Brock Rust hit a sacrifice fly to bring home a run. Southwestern answered to tie it, but Civic Memorial moved back in front in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single by Ian Lamb for a 2-1 lead.
Wesley earned the win after allowing five hits and one run over six innings. He struck out four and walked one. Jacob Flowers worked a scoreless inning in relief, striking out two without allowing a hit or a walk.
Carter Watson took the loss for Southwestern. He went five innings and allowed three runs, two earned, on four hits. Watson struck out five and walked four.
Rust, Flowers and Lamb each drove in a run for Civic Memorial. Chase Butler led the Eagles at the plate, going 2-for-3.
Colton Huber drove in Southwestern’s run. Reed Campbell went 2-for-3 to lead Southwestern in hits.
Civic Memorial is scheduled to play at Mater Dei on Wednesday.
