JERSEYVILLE – With warmer weather and city-wide infrastructure projects underway, Jerseyville officials are urging residents to stay informed about road closures and more via TextMyGov.
Jerseyville Mayor Kevin Stork encouraged residents to sign up for the city’s TextMyGov text message notification system at the latest City Council meeting on March 31, 2026. Those interested can text JERSEYVILLE to 91896 to opt into alerts and notifications from the City of Jerseyville.
“We’re trying to just get the word out there and be able to update the community on the opening and closing of roads,” Stork said. “There’s a lot going on right now in the spring season, so I encourage you to sign up for TextMyGov.”
Stork noted a recent message that went out to current recipients on March 23, 2026 about ongoing and upcoming road closures, detours, and delays as road, utility, and infrastructure projects ramp up around the city. Residents can get updates on road closures by texting “CLOSURE” to 618-328-4040 or by visiting the Public Works page on the city website.
The mayor said one key closure is currently in effect on West County Road from Cross Avenue to Maple Summit Road, one of the main routes leading to Jersey Community Hospital.
“The main thoroughfare going to the hospital is closed down, so that changes a lot for everybody,” Stork said. “I’d rather you be prepared and make sure you’re going the right way.”
The West County Road closure is expected to last approximately two more weeks to facilitate an Illinois American Water sewer project in the eastbound lane, according to the city website. Only emergency vehicles and local traffic from residents living along the route and will be allowed entry.
Public Works Director Bob Manns said a closure of Hollow Avenue is coming up soon as work continues on Phase 2 improvements. Manns said his crew recently laid down a base rock layer to be used as the road surface while concrete and curb work is completed. He added that residents along the route have been made aware the area will be open to local traffic only.
Manns said another road closure will be coming to Pleasant Street as physical construction starts next week on a drainage improvement project in the area. He said emergency crews and the local school district have been notified the street will only be only to local traffic during construction.
