Stone Hits Three-Run Homer, Pippins Allows One Run On Four Hits, Tigers Score Eight In Second Inning, Defeats Granite City 11-1

EDWARDSVILLE - Lily Stone hit a three-run homer in the second inning, while starting pitcher Makaela Pippins allowed only one run on four hits, as Edwardsville scored eight runs in the second, climaxed by Stone's shot, to help defeat Granite City 11-1 in a softball game played Thursday afternoon, April 2, 2026, at the Edwardsville District 7 sports complex.

The win was the Tigers' third straight and fourth in their last six games, while the Warriors lost their third straight game and have only won once in their first nine games.

The Tigers got started in the bottom of the first, when Bryar Ellinger reached on a bunt single, then came around the bases when the ball was thrown away to score on the error, giving Edwardsville a quick 1-0 lead. Remi Werden started the second with a base hit back to the box, then scored on a dropped third strike that allowed Audrey De La Torre Cruz to reach, with Werden scoring on an error by the first baseman to make it 2-0. De La Torre Cruz going to second. She advanced to third on an infield single by Maggie Bray, then scoring when Sophie Antonini reached on an error, Bray going to third, making the score 3-0 for Edwardsville.

A Wiley double to left scored both Antonini and Bray to up the lead to 5-0 for the Tigers, and one out later, Amelia Wilfong singled home Wiley to make it 6-0. Brooke Burris singled Wilfong to third, then Lily Stone hit a three-run homer over the fence in center field, scoring Wilfong and Burris ahead of her, and making it 9-0 for Edwardsville.

Memphis Wyatt-Brown doubled with one out in the top of the third to get Granite started, and was singled to third by Chloe Randolph. Wyatt-Brown scored on Milyn Roehr's sacrifice fly to center to cut the Edwardsville lead to 9-1. The Tigers picked up two more runs in the home half of the fourth, starting out with a lead-off walk to Savanna Lewis, and a single by Lily Maxwell, with Kaitlyn Hatfield's RBI single scoring Lewis and Maxwell to make it 11-1. Granite was then retired in the top of the fifth to end the game because of the 10-run rule, with Edwardsville taking the 11-1 win.

Stone's three-run homer was her only hit and RBIs or the Tigers, while Wiley had a hit and two RBIs, Hatfield and Wilfong both came up with a hit and RBI each, and Burris, Maxwell, Werden De La Torre Cruz, and Bray all had hits. Pippins went for three innings in the circle, allowing an earned run on four hits, walking none, and striking out none, while Sammie Herbeck tossed the last two innings, allowing no runs on two hits, walking three and fanning three.

Randolph, Alexis Ruiz, Isabella Briagas, Makayla Adams, Payton Shipley, and Wyatt-Brown all had hits for the Warriors, while Roehr had the only RBI. Briagas went all the way inside the circle, allowing 11 runs, four earned, on 10 hits, walking one and striking out two.

Granite is now 1-8 on the season, and plays at Roxana on Friday, and hosts Belleville East Monday afternoon, both games starting at 4:30 p.m., then plays at Mascoutah Wednesday afternoon at 4:15 p.m.

Edwardsville is now 10-7 on the season, and hosts Quincy in a Good Friday doubleheader, the first game starting at 12 noon, and continues its home stand by playing Alton on Tuesday and Belleville East next Thursday, with both games set to start at 4:30 p.m.
