EDWARDSVILLE - Lily Stone had a big day at the plate, having five hits, including a first game home run, and seven RBIs in two games, while three Tigers pitchers combined to limit Quincy to two runs and seven hits in both games as Edwardsville swept a doubleheader over the Blue Devils 15-0 and 17-2 Friday afternoon at the Edwardsville District 7 sports complex.
The Tigers were clicking on all cylinders during the sweep in extending their current winning streak to five straight since being swept by Chatham Glenwood last Friday. The Tigers were rolling well all day, and head coach Caty Happe felt things couldn't have gone any better.
"I think we've played a lot of games, now," Happe said, "so we're starting to get more comfortable, and seeing the ball well, so it was a good day."
Stone has been swinging a hot bat as of late, hitting two home runs in as many days, including a three-run shot in a win over Granite City the day before, and pitcher Marley Fox only gave up a lead-off single in the first game, then proceeded to retire the next 12 batters in a row in a great showing in the circle.

"Marley's come back strong," Happe said, "so I think we've been really smart about limiting her, making sure she stays healthy throughout. And Lily's been seeing the ball really, really well. Not only playing the field at third well, but hitting the ball hard, which is awesome to see."
The Tigers are starting to reach the halfway point of the campaign and are starting to hit their stride at the right time.
"Yes, we are halfway through the season," Happe said. "Now we're trying to keep pushing and getting better every game."
It's been a very good bounce back for Edwardsville since being swept last week, and Happe is very hopeful it continues.
In the first game, things started well for the Tigers in the bottom of the first, when Bryar Ellinger was hit by a pitch, went to second on a passed ball, and scored on an RBI single by Amelia Wilfong to make it 1-0. After a double play, Stone hit her homer on a 1-0 pitch over the fence in left to double Edwardsville's lead to 2-0.
In the home half of the second, Audrey De La Torre Cruz doubled to left, stole third, and Maggie Bray walked and stole second to put runners in scoring position. Maksine Straub walked to load the bases, and Emily Grandone reached on an error, allowing one run to score to make it 3-0, keeping the bases loaded. Ellinger grounded into a double play, but Bray scored, and Zurleine went to third to make it 4-0, where a passed ball allowed her to score and increase the lead to 5-0. Wilfong then singled, stole second, and Brooke Burris drew a walk. Stone doubled both runners home to make it 7-0 before the inning ended.
In the bottom of the third, De La Torre Cruz walked to start the inning, went to second and third on wild pitches, and Bray drew a walk to put runners on the corners. A Straub base hit scored De La Torre Cruz, and both Bray and Straub scored on an error to make it 10-0. One out later, Savanna Lewis reached on a dropped fly ball to right for another error, but the inning ended with no further damage.
In the bottom of the fourth, Stone led off by reaching on an error by the third baseman, going to second on the play, then scored on a Lily Maxwell triple to the fence in center to make it 11-0. Marissa Wiley doubled home Maxwell, and Straub singled home two runs, going to third on a throw to the plate, Wiley and Bray both scoring and pushing the lead to 14-0. A Grandone sacrifice fly to center scored Zurleine to end the first game for the Tigers 15-0, due to the 15-run rule.
Stone had two hits, including her solo homer, and three RBIs for the Tigers, as did Straub, Wilfong had two hits and an RBI, Maxwell and Wiley each had a hit and an RBI, De La Torre Cruz came up with a hit, and Grandone had two RBIs. Meanwhile, Fox allowed a lead-off single to Ivy Winter to start the game - and nothing else as she went all four innings in the circle for the win, walking none and striking out six.
