OSF HealthCare Welcomes New Gastroenterologist, Tarik Firozi, MD

ALTON – OSF HealthCare is pleased to add a new gastroenterologist provider to its staff to better serve Alton and the surrounding areas.

The addition of Tarik Firozi, MD, on April 6, 2026, will strengthen patient care by bringing specialized expertise in diagnosing and treating digestive conditions, leading to faster and more accurate outcomes. Dr. Firozi’s addition ensures continued and expanded access to GI care for patients at OSF Saint Anthony’s Health Center, while further enhancing the hospital’s overall quality of care.

Dr. Firozi offers a number of services including:abdominal pain, ascites, Barrett’s esophagus, Celiac disease, chronic constipation, chronic diarrhea, cirrhosis of the liver, colon cancer screening, Crohn’s disease, diverticular disease of the colon, eosinophilic esophagitis, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD/heartburn), gastrointestinal bleeding, helicobacter pylori infection, hemorrhoids, hepatitis and other chronic liver diseases, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), microscopic colitis, nausea and vomiting, pancreatic disease, removal of polyps (colon and other GI sites), stones in the bile duct, swallowing difficulty, ulcerative colitis, ulcers, unexplained weight loss.

Procedures offered by Dr. Firozi: Upper endoscopy (EGD), colonoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, balloon enteroscopy, capsule endoscopy, endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), GI manometry and motility studies, esophageal dilation, hemorrhoid banding, stent placement, PEG/PEJ feeding-tube placement

He received a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery and medical degree from Dhaka Medical College. He completed a fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology at University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and advanced training in therapeutic ERCP with Douglas Howell, MD, at Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine, and advanced training in therapeutic EUS in Montreal, Canada.
