ALTON - Alton Main Street is seeking community-minded volunteers to join its team for the 2026 season. As historic Downtown Alton continues to experience a surge in economic development and cultural activity, the organization is inviting residents to lend their time and talents to a diverse lineup of festivals, markets, and beautification projects.

The 2026 calendar features a wide array of service opportunities catering to various interests, including:

  • Community Events: Volunteers are needed for the upcoming Pop-Up Clothing Swap on the weekend of April 25th & 26th, the annual All-Wheels Drive-In Car Show on Sun, June 7th, and the 20th Anniversary of the Mississippi Earthtones Festival on September 19th.
  • Seasonal Markets: Helping hands are needed at the information booth for the weekly Alton Farmers’ & Artisans’ Market on Saturdays from May 9th through October 17th and the vibrant Night Market series on Thursdays from June 4th through July 30th.
  • Specialty Fundraisers: Support would be appreciated for unique local favorite events that raise money for the mission, including the Pup Crawl (That’s a Pub Crawl + Dogs!) on Sat, May 30th and the annual Downtown Chili Cook-Off on Sun, Oct 18th.
  • Beautification: Ongoing needs include the Alton Main Street Gardening Group which maintains 20+ downtown garden beds and pocket parks, plus coordination of public art projects and litter removal efforts.
  • Planning: Committee members work behind the scenes to make the magic happen! Our economic vitality committee assists small business owners with timely educational topics, real estate inquiries and much more. For those who would like to help with sporadic tasks instead of attending meetings, the perfect way to pitch in at your convenience is to join the “Alton Main Street - Planners & Doers” Facebook group, to assist with occasional project logistics and community engagement.
