ALTON - Alton Community Unit School District #11 invites all incoming kindergarteners to attend kindergarten enrollment, where families can tour the schools, meet the teachers and more.

All families with children who will be 5 on or before Sept. 1, 2026, are asked to attend if you are living within the district. Students will take a pre-k assessment while their caregivers complete the enrollment process. Afterwards, families can enjoy a tour of the school, meet with teachers, eat a snack, pose for photos with the Alton Redbird, and even take a bus ride provided by Illinois Central.

“We are incredibly excited to welcome our incoming kindergarten students and their families to our district,” said Jody Meggos, the district’s Director of Curriculum. “Kindergarten is such a special milestone, and we are committed to making it a positive and welcoming experience for every child.”

To enroll, a legal guardian must bring the child’s certified birth certificate, the guardian’s photo ID, and three proofs of residency. For more information about these requirements, including what qualifies as a proof of residency, click here.

Meggos hopes the event makes it easy for families to enroll their children while also fostering excitement for kindergarten. She is eager to welcome the Class of 2039 to the Alton School District.

“We want families to know that our schools are ready to support their child’s growth from day one,” she added. “We look forward to partnering with families as we begin this important journey together.”
