TROY, Ill. — A person was killed after being struck by a freight train on the CSX Railroad in Troy, prompting a response from multiple agencies late Saturday night, according to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.
The Madison County Sheriff’s Office said it responded along with the Troy Fire Department, Glen Carbon Fire Department and the Madison County Coroner’s Office to a report of a pedestrian struck by a freight train in the area of West Mill Creek Road, between South Liberty Road and Longhi Road.

Upon arrival, responders located one individual who was pronounced deceased at the scene, the sheriff’s office said.
A preliminary review of the train’s onboard video indicates the individual was lying on the tracks at the time of the incident. When the train’s horn sounded, the individual attempted to stand but was unable to clear the tracks before being struck, the sheriff’s office said.
The identity of the deceased has not yet been determined because no form of identification was recovered at the scene, the sheriff’s office said.
