Our Daily Show Interview! Keith Short & Associates Adds Dan Farroll as Partner

ALTON - An Alton-based law firm has introduced a new partner.

Keith Short and Associates recently welcomed attorney Dan Farroll to their ranks. Keith Short, who owns the practice and attended law school with Farroll, expressed his excitement to join forces with Farroll as they help people with medical malpractice, workers’ compensation, car accidents, and other legal cases.

“It’s just been a very curated, very thought-out growth,” Short said. “Every single person who has joined us and has stayed hasn’t just stayed because it’s a job. They stay because they’re devoted to this. It has really become a machine of common effort, common belief, common thinking…It’s a curated growth with really, really good people on the same mission.”

As partners, Short, Farroll and Holly Marcum lead the firm with consistency and a commitment to helping others.

Short described himself as “more emotional and intuitive,” while Farroll is “an incredibly intellectual thinker.” As soon as Farroll joined the law firm, Short put him in charge of an important part of a major case. Both Short and Farroll agree that this trust is an important part of their professional relationship.

“Imagine, the biggest case you’re ever going to have in your life, worth $30–$40 million, and saying, ‘Here you go. I trust you more than I trust myself on this issue, and I will defer to you.’ That’s literally the position I’ve taken,” Short explained. “That should tell you something.”

For Farroll, the new position is equally exciting. He believes he complements Short well, and the two of them bounce off each other in a way that is beneficial to clients. This is the priority for all of the attorneys at Keith Short and Associates — to support the client.

“You can’t apologize if someone is strong in one area and you’re weak in one, or you’re strong in another and someone is weak in another. You can’t call them out for being weak. It’s about whether people complement each other?” Farroll said. “There’s no pride here. It’s all about the client. I think Keith and I have very, very similar outlooks and personalities in that regard.”

Farroll also noted that the firm is a tight-knit community with “no drama,” which surprised him at first. He was impressed to learn that everyone at the firm comes together to decide which cases to take and how to manage their workload.

This mentality delivers results. Short, Farroll, and everyone else at the firm are committed to helping clients.

They usually work with people who have encountered an injustice or an injury due to someone else’s negligence. With this in mind, Farroll and Short agree that one of the best parts of the job is helping clients get justice in the form of compensation.

“It’s about getting the client results,” Farroll said. “I think the greatest satisfaction in this business, after all the hard work that we do and all the hard work that the clients put in to help their case move along, is to deliver a check. There’s no greater satisfaction than to deliver a check to somebody who’s either been exploited, wronged, lied to or something. It’s turned their life upside down, and you can hand them a check that helps them get their life in order. There’s no greater satisfaction than that.”

Short believes his firm is stronger than ever with the addition of Farroll. He is proud of how the group has grown and eager to embark on this next chapter with his team.

“It’s actually enjoyable to do this job. I have a friend down the hall. I have less stress,” he said. “I can enjoy life. Do the job, make some money, help people, enjoy life. It’s pretty good.”
