For her dedication, Kaitlyn Webster is a Hayner Public Library District Student of the Month for Alton High School.
Webster, a sophomore, is heavily involved in the Alton High School music program. She plays with the jazz band, the Marching 100, the wind ensemble and symphonic band, and the jazz combo. She has also enjoyed playing in the pit orchestra for the school’s musical.
Webster has participated in the district’s band program since she was an elementary student. She loves playing her instrument and enjoys the friendships and collaboration she experiences through the music program.
She has been recognized for her skills, named solo and ensemble first superior five times. She was the first Alton Middle School student in history to be selected for the ILMEA Junior Jazz Band and has received a couple of scholarships to further her music education. She will march with the Colt Cadets this summer.
When she isn’t busy with school, Webster takes “every volunteer opportunity [she] can get” and especially loves working with the Alton Band and Orchestra Builders organization to support her fellow band members.
She is looking forward to life after high school. Her teachers and loved ones can’t wait to see what she does next.
“I want to go to a college for music education and I want to become a band teacher,” she shared. “It is band or nothing for me. I have loved band since I was a little girl and it is all I ever think about.”
Congratulations to Kaitlyn for this recognition by Alton High School and the Hayner Public Library District!
