ROXANA – Ava Cherry delivered a monster performance at the plate, blasting two home runs and driving in six runs to lead Roxana to a thrilling 9-7 comeback victory over Southwestern on Monday at Roxana Park.

Roxana Shells stormed back after falling behind 7-1 in the fifth inning, putting together a late surge to secure the win.
Southwestern Piasa Birds struck first in the opening inning, highlighted by an RBI single from Vivian Zurheide. Cherry quickly answered in the bottom half with a solo home run to center to get Roxana on the board.
Southwestern appeared to take control in the fifth, erupting for five runs on four hits. Zurheide launched a two-run homer, while Maci Timpe added an RBI single. Maddie Pruitt drew a bases-loaded walk, and Hannah Mary contributed a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 7-1.
But Roxana responded in dramatic fashion in the bottom of the inning. Cherry crushed her second home run of the game a three-run shot to right sparking a five-run rally. Madison John added a sacrifice fly, and Claire Wilkinson drove in another run with a single to cut the deficit to 7-6.
The Shells completed the comeback in the sixth inning. Cherry came through again with a clutch two-run single to give Roxana the lead, and Lilli Ray followed with a sacrifice fly to provide an insurance run.
Kassidy Schuyler earned the win for Roxana, tossing a complete game while allowing seven runs on 14 hits, striking out two and walking four.
Kylah Brown added two hits for Roxana in the victory.
Southwestern tallied 14 hits in the loss, led by Zurheide, who went 4-for-5 with three RBIs. Mary, Timpe, and Josie Hagen also recorded multiple hits for the Piasa Birds.
