Jared K. Lewis, 35, of East St. Louis, was charged on April 9, 2026 with one count each of robbery (a Class 1 felony), aggravated battery (a Class 3 felony), and theft (a Class 4 felony).
Lewis allegedly knowingly punched a 73-year-old woman in the face without legal justification and took $10 from the same victim by use of force on Jan. 7, 2026.
A petition to deny Lewis’s pretrial release from custody was filed in this case by the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office.
According to the petition, Lewis “was at the victim’s house to help her move” and became upset after the victim “moved his jacket from the table to the couch.” He then reportedly battered the victim and stole $10 from her before leaving the home.
Charging documents note Lewis had previously been convicted of forgery in a prior Madison County case from 2015.
The Alton Police Department presented the latest case against Lewis, who was ordered remanded to jail for his initial appearance in court.
All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
