
WOOD RIVER - East Alton-Wood River Oilers struggled to keep pace with a powerful Salem lineup, falling 16-2 on Tuesday.

Salem wasted no time getting started, plating two runs in the top of the first inning after Isabella Decker and Alivia Rasul each delivered RBI hits. They continued to build momentum in the second, capitalizing on an error and adding runs on a sacrifice fly by Katee Sellers and an RBI single from Marah Johnson.
After adding another run in the third to make it 6-1, Salem broke the game open in the sixth inning.
The visitors scored six runs on four hits, highlighted by Johnson’s three-run home run to right field. Additional runs came from an error, along with RBI singles by Morgan Honerkamp and Sellers.
Honerkamp earned the win for Salem, allowing just three hits and two runs (one earned) over six strong innings while striking out four and walking two. Ellie Beachum took the loss for the Oilers after surrendering eight runs (five earned) on 10 hits in 3 2/3 innings.
Teagan Short led East Alton-Wood River at the plate, going 1-for-3 with an RBI. Morgan Reynolds, Emily Fry, and Short each recorded a hit in the loss.
Salem’s offense was dominant throughout, racking up 17 hits. Johnson drove in five runs from the heart of the order, finishing 2-for-4.
Honerkamp, Jaelyn Keller, and Emma Lipe each tallied three hits, while Rasul and Kendall Zimmermann added multiple hits in the commanding win.
