In another match on Monday, Jersey defeated Alton 6-3. Jersey led 2-1 after doubles and won four of six singles matches. Both teams were competitives in all the matches, Macias said.

“We came out playing really well in doubles. All three matches were close and it hurt only getting one of them,” Macias said. “But, we showed a lot of focus and grit in the doubles matches. Jerseyville just played too good.”

In singles against Jerseyville, Alton’s Carter Hanebutt defeated Noah Borkowski 4-6, 6-4, 10-7 at No. 1, and Erick Humphrey beat Mike Roberts 6-2, 6-7, 10-6 at No. 3. Jersey earned singles wins from Paul Slusser, Ethan Edwards, Lincoln Diamond and Jaron Decker.
