She has also participated in Pep band for four years, Jazz band for two and a half years, and wind ensemble for three years, described as the school’s highest level band. She also plays trombone in the symphonic and pit orchestras.
Cassenti has also pursued math through the Alton High School math team. At the Excellence in Mathematics contest held annually at Saint Louis Community College, her scores have been in the top 10 for her grade level three of the four times she attended.
She volunteers through Mu Alpha Theta, National Honor Society, and the Alton Band and Orchestra Builders, known as ABOB. Cassenti has served with ABOB for four years, beginning with its annual craft fair as a freshman and continuing for three additional years. Her work has included putting away equipment after concerts, setting up for concerts and competitions, and helping with ABOB’s virtual auction.
Cassenti joined Mu Alpha Theta and National Honor Society during her senior year. In Mu Alpha Theta, she tutors students struggling in math and has earned 19 hours of community service. Through National Honor Society, she has worked with multiple organizations, including The Nature Institute and the Salvation Army.
Cassenti plans to attend the University of Iowa to study actuarial science, a field that uses mathematical and statistical models to evaluate risk in the insurance, finance and pension industries.
