Crawford Has Three Hits, RBI, Shells Score Five Runs In Fourth And Fifth, Win Over Redbirds 12-2

Shells extend winning streak to nine in ten games.

ROXANA - Keelan Crawford led Roxana with three hits and an RBI, while Nick Miles also struck out four in four innings on the mound to gain the win as Roxana scored five runs in both the fourth and fifth innings as Roxana defeated 12-2 in a baseball game Wednesday afternoon, April 15, 2026, at Roxana City Park.

The Shells have now won nine of their last 10 games, while the Redbirds have now lost six of their last eight games, seeing a modest two game winning streak snapped.

The Shells went out on top in the bottom of the second, starting with a lead-off single by Mason Crump, who stole second, and after two strikeouts, scored when Lyndon Theis reached second on an error by the third baseman.

The Redbirds tied the game in the third, starting with a lead-off walk to Hayden Schepers. who went to second on a two-out walk to Alex Pilger. Anderson Kaufmann hit an infield single to third that scored courtesy runner Logan Davis to tie the game 1-1.

The Shells took the lead in the bottom of the fourth, starting with a lead-off homer over the center field fence by Max Autery, with Sean Maberry singling to right with one out, and one out later, Joe Johnson drew a walk to put Maberry on second. Theis then singled home Maberry to extend the lead to 3-1. A single by Logan Cox loaded the bases, and Crawford singled home Johnson to make the score 4-1, keeping the bases loaded. A Dalton Carriker sacrifice fly to center scored Theis, and Miles singled home Cox to make the score 6-1.

The Redbirds got one of the runs back in the top of the fifth, starting with a lead-off walk to Jack Puent, who went to second on a hit by Pilger, then scored on a RBI single by Kaufmann to make the score 6-2. Crump and Maberry led off the bottom of the fifth with singles. Crump was later picked off second, and with two out, Theis doubled home Maberry o make it 7-2, then Cox reached on an error that allowed Theis to score and make it 8-2. Cox went to second on a base hit by Crawford, with Carriker reaching on an error that scored both Cox and Crawford, Carriker going to second, making the score 10-2. A Miles double to left scored Carriker and made the score 11-2 before the end in the inning.

Maberry led off the sixth with a walk, but was doubled off first on a fly out to right by Jackson Null. Theis drew a walk, stole second, and went to third when the catcher's throw went into center field for an error, then scored the game-ending run on an infield single by Cox to end the game, giving Roxana the 12-2 win.

Crawford led the Shells with three hits and an RBI, while Miles and Theis had two hits and two RBIs, Cox had two hits and an RBI, both Crump and Maberry had two hits each, Autery's homer was hit only hit and RBI, and Carriker had an RBI. Miles went for four innings on the mound, picking up the win, allowing an earned run on four hits, walking four and striking out four, while Johnson went for the final two innings, conceding an earned run on three hits, walking two and fanning two.

Kaufmann had two hits and two RBIs to lead the Redbirds, while Pilger had two hits, and Hickman, Parker Cannon, and Blake Rensing all had hits. Donovan Ducey started on the mound for Alton, and was charged with loss, going for two innings, allowing 10 runs, six earned, on 11 hits, walking two and striking out none. Kaufmann went for three innings, allowing an unearned run on two hits walking one and fanning four, and Puent threw for the final 0.2 innings, giving up an unearned run on a hit, walking two and striking out none.

The Shells are now 11-2, and will host Columbia on Thursday, and Altamont on Friday, then plays at Breese Central on Tuesday, all games starting at 4:30 p.m. The Redbirds go to 8-8, and play Thursday at East St. Louis, at 4 p.m., then host Father McGivney Catholic Friday at 6 p.m., the plays at Granite City Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
