Jersey County Board members unanimously approved an intergovernmental agreement with the City of Jerseyville regarding recycling at their April 16, 2026 meeting.
Vice Chairman Mark Wagner said the county will be responsible for the hauling of recyclables to the dump and associated costs, while the city will provide the dump site and manpower needed to process the materials.
He said this amounts to the county doing its part to approve the partnership after Jerseyville City Council members approved increased dump sticker fees and major changes to the next round of dump permit stickers being sold at City Hall the week of April 20, 2026.
Dump stickers will be divided into two categories: “Full Service” stickers and “Recycling Only” stickers. “Full Service” stickers include recycling, trash, and yard waste services at $275 per year for Jerseyville residents and $300 per year for Jersey County residents. “Recycling Only” stickers only cover recycling services at $20 per year for both city and county residents.
Wagner said the annual $20 fee for “Recycling Only” stickers is set to increase by 5% each year under the three-year contract with the city, and is meant to keep track of who is allowed to recycle at the site. He added that county-wide residents had never before had access to the city dump site, which had previously only been open to city residents.
The city and county are still set to mutually determine which recyclable materials will be accepted, though the agreement states these “may include paper, cardboard, plastics, metals, and glass.” Mayor Kevin Stork previously stated the city will provide more details about the new recycling program, including acceptable materials, on the city’s website and social media pages in the near future.
The item was approved unanimously, paving the way for the Jerseyville city dump to start offering trash, recycling, and yard waste services to residents across Jersey County.
