
JERSEYVILLE - Journalism and yearbook students from Jersey Community Unit School District No. 100 earned multiple placements Saturday, April 11, 2026, at the IHSA Journalism Sectional competition, with four students advancing to the IHSA State Tournament, the district said.

At the sectional competition, Shayla Friedel placed sixth in Headline Writing, Haylie Eilerman placed fourth in Infographics, Sierra Williams placed fourth in News Writing, Kiley King placed sixth in Photo Storytelling, and Abby Chin and Madalyn Bodenbach placed fifth in Yearbook Theme Development.
The district also said the following students advanced to the IHSA State Tournament: Stone Heitzig, who placed second in Copy Editing; Kimberlee Ford, who placed second in Feature Writing; Taryn Little, who placed third in Review Writing; and Maleah Derrick, the sectional champion in Newspaper Design.
“All of these students work really hard throughout the year on creating The JCHS Roar as well as our yearbook,” the school district said. “We are so proud of them and wish them the best of luck in the state tournament.”
