The two-day event welcomed more than 1,800 eighth grade students from 26 schools across Illinois, along with nearly 60 exhibitors representing state agencies, businesses, not-for-profit organizations, colleges, and universities. Together, participants created a dynamic environment focused on exploring career opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM).
“CareerSpark gives students a chance to explore STEAM careers in a way that feels accessible and exciting,” said Illinois Department of Innovation & Technology Acting Secretary and State CIO Brandon Ragle. “Our goal is for students to experiment, ask questions, and see innovation up close so they can see the wide range of paths available to them and how their skills can translate into in demand careers. We’re proud to support an event that encourages students to discover what inspires them.”
Throughout the Expo, students engaged directly with professionals and participated in interactive exhibits and demonstrations designed to bring STEAM careers to life. From emerging technologies to creative problem-solving, the event offered a comprehensive look at the diverse pathways available to students as they begin thinking about their futures.
The CareerSpark STEAM Expo continues to grow each year, reflecting Illinois’ commitment to fostering innovation and preparing the next generation for in-demand careers. By connecting classroom learning with real-world applications, the event helps build a strong pipeline of future talent and supports the state’s broader efforts to strengthen its workforce and economy.
“CareerSpark succeeds because our partners believe in investing in young people,” said Junior Achievement of Central Illinois President Mary Pille. “When students have the chance to explore careers through hands on experiences, it helps them see what’s possible and start building confidence in their future. We’re grateful to work alongside organizations that share our commitment to preparing the next generation for success.”
DoIT extends its gratitude to all participating organizations, volunteers, and partners whose collaboration made this year’s event a success. Their continued support ensures that students across Illinois have access to meaningful opportunities to explore and engage with STEAM fields.
