Daisy Daugherty
Daisy is a senior at Roxana High School who has made a lasting impression through a unique blend of competitive drive and compassionate leadership. As a multi-sport athlete in basketball, track, and volleyball, Daisy is also a prominent voice in Saturday Scholars, Student Council, and the National Honor Society.
To Daisy, "Service Above Self" means choosing to put others' needs before your own, especially when it goes unrecognized. For her, service isn't about the rewards; it's about the quiet responsibility of doing the right thing.
If there is one word that defines Daisy's service, it is reliability. She has become the community’s "first responder" for volunteers. Whether it's stepping in at the last minute for a 7 a.m. basketball camp or adjusting her own evening plans to help with an 8 p.m. session, Daisy is the one who always shows up and can be counted on.
Her consistency is seen across a wide range of activities, from Freshman Orientation and wrapping presents for "Kids Christmas" to volunteering at the Junior Olympics and Junior High track meets. However, if you ask Daisy what has impacted her the most, she will point to the Best Buddies program. In this role, she works to build meaningful friendships and promote inclusion for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
She describes this as one of the most rewarding things she has done, as it focuses on what really matters: making sure every student feels they belong.
Daisy's motivation is rooted in the belief that small actions create big change. She understands that a simple act of kindness can change the trajectory of someone's entire day. Her advice to younger students is a testament to her own journey: "Start small and just get involved. Every act of kindness matters, and it adds up over time. Find something you care about, and stay consistent!"
Troy Rahn
Troy is a Senior at Roxana High School who has spent his high school career serving as the "voice" and the "spirit" of our community. His involvement is everything, spanning Thespian Troupe #556, the Marching, Concert, and Jazz bands, Chamber Choir, Vocal Ensemble, and the Student Advisory Panel.
For Troy, "Service Above Self" is about the intersection of talent and community. He believes that service means being constantly willing to help and using your unique individual gifts to further benefit the people around you.
Troy has lived this definition out in a very public way. On countless occasions, Troy has been the one to step up to the microphone at games and fundraisers, using his singing abilities to perform the National Anthem, serving as the announcer for boys' and girls' basketball, softball, and baseball games.
His commitment to the younger generation is just as strong. Troy has dedicated significant time to tutoring his peers, assisting with junior high musicals, and supporting community theater events. From Christmas Caroling and volunteering at "Kids Christmas" to his leadership in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the National Honor Society, Troy is always looking for a way to contribute.
What motivates Troy is simple: he loves seeing the happiness on people's faces when he does something to help others. He is driven by a deep-seated passion for the community setting, stating quite clearly, "I love my community—it's as simple as that."
