Wood River Police Resolve Early Morning Hostage Situation

A tense morning standoff ended peacefully when the individual causing a disturbance surrendered to law enforcement after hours of negotiation.

WOOD RIVER — The Wood River Police Department responded early Wednesday morning to the 400 block of Walcott Street for what was reported as a possible hostage situation.

According to Wood River Police Chief Brad Wells, four people were inside the home when a male began causing a disturbance involving a possible weapon.

“One of the people inside the house was able to escape and call for help,” Wells said.

Wood River Police Standoff

When officers arrived, the suspect and two other people remained inside the residence. The Wood River Police Department then requested a SWAT team to assist at the scene.

After about an hour, the two other occupants exited the home safely. A short time later, the suspect also came out of the residence without further incident.

No injuries were reported.

Several law enforcement agencies responded to assist the Wood River Police Department. The incident remains under investigation.
