ALTON - Soulcial Kitchen will once again host a monthly Block Party for Good with free groceries, hot meals and health screenings.

From 2–4 p.m. on Friday, April 24, 2026, community members can receive groceries from the St. Louis Area Foodbank, meals from Big Meechie Food Truck, and basic health services from the OSF HealthCare Community Outreach Teams. All food and services will be available at Soulcial Square next to The Salvation Army while supplies last.

“We just want to love [people]. We want to serve them,” said John Michel. “We think this is what it looks like for a community to roll up their sleeves and get out there and serve our neighbors in need.”

Michel is the founder of Soulcial Kitchen, the organization behind the Block Party for Good. The group partners with Food Is Love to offer the Block Party every fourth Friday of the month in Alton and Swansea.

Through collaboration with OSF HealthCare and the St. Louis Area Foodbank, the organization is able to welcome several dozen community members every month. They also partner with Theodora Farms in Godfrey to distribute fresh local produce.

They try to bring in different services and resources every month. Soulcial Kitchen is always looking to expand the Block Party for Good, and organizations that want to be a part of the event can contact Michel.

He expressed his appreciation for these partners, noting that their work wouldn’t be possible without everyone’s commitment to helping those in need.

“We believe the solution to most of the challenges communities have already exist in the community,” he explained. “We’ve just got to do the work as a team, roll up our sleeves, get the right collaboration, and unite people around the idea of serving neighbors in need, which is never hard, because people are good and people want to do good. I think the block party concept is just a manifestation of that.”
