Griffins' Caleb Payne Clears 13-1 in Pole Vault: McGivney's Boys Dominate Brandon Ahring Memorial Boys Meet

McGivney's Liam Schmidt pushes three relay teams to first place. MELHS' standout Brice Stewart captures long jump, triple jump wins.

McGivney's outstanding pole vaulter Caleb Payne.GLEN CARBON - Father McGivney Catholic recorded a narrow team victory over Metro East Lutheran in the Brandon Ahring Memorial Boys Meet on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at McGivney track, posting 131 points to MELHS' 123.

Althoff Catholic was third with 77 points, Breese Mater Dei fourth with 71 points, then Maryville Christian with 60 points and O'Fallon First Baptist Academy with 10 points.

One of the more amazing efforts in the meet came from Caleb Payne of McGivney, who cleared 4.00 meters (13-1.5 inches), and he narrowly missed the 13-7 mark. He is only a sophomore for the Griffins. He is shown vaulting in the meet above.

Althoff Catholic dominated the 100 meters with Xavier Jenkins first (11.51) and DeMaree Koonce second (11.57). Chance Stults of MELHS was fifth (12.48).

Koonce won the 200 meters race (23.70 and John Pierre of McGivney was fourth (25.70)

Mater Dei's Reagan Woomer won the 400 meters (51.48), followed by Henry Reisech of MELHS (54.19). Drew Kamudulski, a rising middle-distance runner from Maryville Christian, was fourth (59.40).

Chase Lading continued Maryville Christian's success with a win in the 800 meters (2:09.35).

Jack Shank captured a 1,600-meter win with a time of 4:45.85 over MELHS teammate Dean Hemmer (4:53.95).

Lucas Abbott of MELHS and Hemmer placed one-two in the 3,200 (11:00.36 and 11:48.86) times. Maryville Christian's Silas Swick was third (12:33.21).

Cade King won the 110 hurdles for Maryville Christian with a time of 16.32, followed by Brice Stewart of MELHS (17.55). King also won the 300 hurdles (41.64).

Althoff won the 4 x 100 relay (45.69), Father McGivney won the 4 x 200 relay (1:35.22, anchored by star Liam Schmidt).

McGivney won the 4 x 400 relay (3:37.91) with Will Rakers, Gus Range, Liam Schmidt and Avery Haukap teaming for the win.

Liam Schmidt ran the 4 x 800 relay with teammates Eric Rybak, Connor Schmidt and Aidan Schmidt and won going away with a time of 8:40.50. Those boys will be state contenders in that relay in the coming days.

Brice Stewart of MELHS won the triple jump 12.12 meters and the long jump 5.89 meters. Carson Oller of McGivney was second with a leap of 5.62 meters in the long jump.

Shane Stewart of MELHS won the shot put (12.44 meters).

Damondraos Bush Jr. won the discus (35.80 meters).
