Jerseyville Middle School Track Teams Dominate Home Meet

Both girls and boys teams excelled at the meet hosting St. Francis, Greenfield and St. Johns, with multiple first-place finishes across 7th and 8th grades.

JERSEYVILLE - The Jersey Community Middle School's girls and boys track teams delivered a strong home meet performance against St. Francis, Greenfield and St. Johns, taking first place at both levels in 8th-grade and 7th-grade girls while the 7th-grade boys finished second.

The meet was held last night, with JCMS hosting the three schools.

The JCMS track team recognized their 8th-grade athletes at their last home event of the season.
"It was a very successful night for all," Jersey coaches said.

For the Lady Panthers, first-place finishes included Evelyn Hughes (8th grade) in the 100 meters; Parker Warford (7th) and Jada Price (8th) in the 200; Elliott Fallin (7th) in the 400; and Kiyah Knoche (8th), who won both the 800 and 1,600. Sophia Kirsch (7th) won the 100-meter hurdles.

In relay events, the 7th grade 4x100 team of Kirsch, Crotchett, Ontis and Damm took first, along with the 8th grade 4x100 team of Jantzen, Williams, Egelhoff and Price. The 7th grade 4x200 relay team of Fallin, Piper, Richie and Warford finished first, as did the 8th grade 4x200 team of Bruce, West, Hughes and West. The 7th grade 4x400 relay team of Crotchett, Wade, Piper and Fallin also earned a top finish, and the 7th grade sprint medley relay (1,600 meters) team of Warford, Piper, Rojas and Fallin took first place.

In field events, Kenzi Schulte (8th) won the shot put, while Claire Challans (7th) and Lana West (8th) won the long jump.

On the boys side, Josue Porras-Sanchez won the 100 meters in 8th grade and also posted a first-place finish in the 200 meters in 7th grade. Grayson Mangara (8th) won the 200 meters, Kyle Darr (8th) won the 400, and Carter Johnson (7th) took first in the 800. The 1,600 was won by Carter Johnson (7th) and Dylan Green (8th).

In relays, the 8th grade 4x200 team of Gallup, Ford, DeSherlia and Zenku earned first place. The 7th grade 4x400 relay team of Wittman, Gresham, Laubscher and Porras-Sanchez finished first, as did the 8th grade 4x400 team of Hutchens, DeSherlia, Ford and Dunham.

In the field events, Mangara won the high jump, while Porras-Sanchez (7th) and Darr (8th) took top honors in the long jump.

Other Jersey Results

In other results, JCHS soccer traveled to EAWR and won 4-0. Holly Lamer scored twice and added an assist for her eighth and ninth goals of the season. Maria Schroeder scored her first goal of the season, and Ylvia Zoller recorded her first career varsity goal, assisted by Maddy Highfill. Goalkeeper Ella Roberts made two saves as she and the backline secured the team’s third clean sheet of the season.

JCHS varsity softball traveled to Mascoutah and lost 3-2 to the Indians.

Varsity, JV Panthers Baseball Post Wins

JCHS JV and varsity baseball hosted Highland and won at both levels. The JV Panthers won 6-5 on a walk-off hit by Justice Drainer. The varsity team won 6-2 behind Hayden LaPlant, who went the distance on the mound. Abe Kribs went 2-for-4 with an RBI, Maddox Vanausdoll went 2-for-3 with an RBI, Isaac Hackethal had a double, and Jude Jones added a hit and an RBI. The freshman team traveled to Collinsville and won 8-4.
