Centerstone team members invite the community to the unveiling of “The Weight of the Shadow” sculpture by artist Ariana Berman and commissioned by Lucas McKenney. The piece represents the unseen emotional burdens many individuals carry with them through their daily lives.

“This piece is more than art, it’s an invitation to pause, check in and start conversations that matter,” Centerstone Director of Community Relations Aaron Seibert said. “Sometimes, a simple question like ‘Are you okay?’ can change everything.”

The art unveiling is meant to help the Alton community gain awareness of the behavioral health care resources available, to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health care and to remind individuals who may be struggling that they are not alone.

Support is available through Centerstone and other community partners, and through the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline (call or text 988).
