With locations in Alton, Edwardsville and O’Fallon, Associated Physicians Group is known throughout the area for its top-notch medical care. Especially in Alton, Green and Dr. Scott Morrison noted that they are able to work closely with their staff and nurse practitioners to connect patients with the care they need for primary care, pain management, physical therapy, labs and more.
“The community has lost some of the primary care base for a variety of reasons, and so we would hope to be able to step up and provide the needs,” Green said. “As a small group, we stay up-to-date. We provide excellent care. We try to be on the cutting edge.”
The practice is preparing for a transition as Green focuses his energy on the Enhanced Wellness Care program. This concierge program allows patients to pay an annual membership fee and receive longer appointments, after-hours access to Green via his personal cell phone, and additional benefits.
He noted that urgent care visits for these patients have dropped because they’re able to receive same-day or next-day appointments through the Enhanced Wellness Care program, usually with a lower copay than at an urgent care. If a patient needs the emergency room, Green will call ahead and provide the charge nurse with some information about what’s going on, so patients are seen more quickly.
He believes this program is a great option for people who want personalized, comprehensive care. Additionally, this leads to more compliance when patients understand why they need to take certain medications or undergo treatments.
Morrison and Green agree that this is a major benefit of their work at Associated Physicians Group. Whether patients sign up for the Enhanced Wellness Care program or stick to a normal plan with APG, the staff takes their time to get to know patients and help them understand what’s going on with their health.
Morrison shared that he came from a larger practice, and patients didn’t receive the same education and personalized focus that they do at APG. In his new role, he tries to work with patients and staff members as “a team” to manage a patient’s health.
“[At other practices,] they’re more like a cog or a number as opposed to a patient,” he said. “Now, I come in in the morning, I see what patients are coming in, I make sure I look up their records and know what’s going on, so when I walk in the room, I already know what’s going on. I’m not flipping through pages trying to figure out what’s going on. When I walk in the room, I know what the plan is already, and then we’ll talk it over and we work together.”
Additionally, APG has several on-site services, like x-rays, labs, physical therapy, pain management and more. Green said he might walk a patient down to the physical therapy floor himself and have them evaluated then and there. When Morrison sends a patient in for labs, he can call them the next day with their results.
Both Morrison and Green are committed to providing personalized care. They work hard to ensure their patients are treated with the personable professionalism that people have come to expect from APG. They want to give every patient the tools they need to maintain their health and manage any conditions they might have.
The Enhanced Wellness Care program allows Green to do this with even more intensity. He is excited to see the program grow over the next few months as he focuses more of his attention on developing it.
“As I try to develop the Enhanced Wellness Program, I’m actually turning it up,” he said. “I’m reading more. I’m studying more. I’m trying to stay more on track. It allows me, I think, to be even more up-to-date on what we’re doing. It inspires me to do the best job I possibly can.”
