Todd Cunningham photo from Brighton on Monday shows massive cloud display low to the ground. Cloud cover that residents described as “often scary” hung over the region Monday, April 27, 2026, as heavy rain brought flash flooding to the St. Louis area and nearby communities, including Hartford.

Parts of Macoupin County reported 4 inches of rain on Monday, according to the National Weather Service in St. Louis.

Some, depicted in a photo of a truck surrounded by water in Wilsonville, had trouble driving in flash flooding conditions.
