At their April 28, 2026 meeting, Jerseyville City Council members unanimously approved an intergovernmental agreement between the City of Jerseyville and Jersey County establishing policies and procedures regarding recycling. The same agreement had been approved by Jersey County Board members at their last meeting.
Mayor Kevin Stork said this marks one of the final steps in making the recycling partnership official. The agreement will last for a term of three years to match the city’s trash and recycling contract with Republic Services.
Under the agreement, the county will be responsible for the hauling of recyclables to the dump and associated costs, while the city will provide the dump site and manpower needed to process the materials.
Stork also announced the city has posted recycling guidelines on its website for those participating in the city’s new recycling program, including which materials can and cannot be recycled and how to prepare them.
The mayor also reminded residents that annual dump permit stickers are now on sale at City Hall, including the newly created “recycling only” stickers for $20 each. The latest round of Jerseyville dump permit stickers will remain valid until April 30, 2027.
City Council members also approved an ordinance amending a section of the City Code regarding solid waste. City Attorney William Strang said the ordinance mostly amounts to cleaning up outdated language, expanding the use of the city dump to county residents, and adding definitions for certain terms such as “recyclable materials.” The amendments were approved unanimously.
