
MADISON/ST. CLAIR COUNTY - An estimated 26 tornado warnings were issued across the St. Louis region during severe storms on Monday, April 27, 2026.
The National Weather Service in St. Louis on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, confirmed one tornado near Marine in Madison County at 1:41 p.m. on Monday, April 27, 2026, with an EF-0 rating, a maximum wind speed of 76 mph, and a length of 0.33 miles.
The National Weather Service confirmed two additional tracks in Metro East Illinois from Monday’s storms.
The National Weather Service in St. Louis said a second tornado touched down near Mascoutah, Ill., by MidAmerica Airport. The service said it had EF-2 intensity, with maximum wind speeds of 118 mph, and that it blew down metal walls and paneling on buildings owned by a local trucking company and snapped multiple wooden utility poles.
A third tornado touched down near Germantown, Ill., with EF-1 intensity and maximum wind speeds of 107 mph, the National Weather Service in St. Louis said. The service said it snapped numerous tree trunks and damaged small buildings.
Crews from the National Weather Service in St. Louis were in St. Clair and Madison counties on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, and continued on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, to determine where tornadoes touched down and their strength. The survey teams were out to confirm whether suspected tornadoes had touched down and to rate any tornadoes on the Enhanced Fujita scale.
The agency also said two tornadoes were identified on radar during Monday’s storms, but that damage survey crews must investigate reported damage to confirm a tornado touchdown and rate its severity. The weather service crews were busy again on Wednesday, surveying around the region for possible tornadoes.
