WOOD RIVER — Freeburg scored 11 runs in the first inning and went on to defeat the East Alton-Wood River Varsity Oilers 19-0 on Thursday at Freeburg High School.

Freeburg struck early in the top of the first. Barlow doubled to drive in a run, Breyman singled in a run, Miller singled in a run, Merril singled in a run, and Tampow grounded out to bring home another. Harms singled to score a run, Garland singled to score a run, and Breyman later singled to drive in two more. Two additional runs scored on an error.
Freeburg added eight runs on five hits in the top of the third inning. An error brought in a run, Tampow singled to score one, and another error plated one more. Harms tripled to drive in two runs, an error scored another run, and Barlow doubled to bring home two.
Merril earned the win for Freeburg, allowing two hits and no runs over three innings. Merril struck out eight and did not issue a walk.
Kameren Johnson took the loss for East Alton-Wood River. The right-hander went three innings and allowed 19 runs, nine earned, on 14 hits. Johnson struck out one and walked two.
Canaan Cook and Johnson each had one hit for the Oilers.
Freeburg finished with 14 hits. Breyman and Garland each had three hits, while Breyman, Barlow and Harms each drove in three runs.
