BETHALTO — Dane Godar went 3-for-5, and Civic Memorial’s baseball team used a big third inning to beat Gibault Catholic 13-3 on Thursday.

Civic Memorial struck first in the opening inning when Brock Rust singled to drive in a run.
Gibault Catholic took a 3-1 lead in the top of the third after Civic Memorial committed an error, Carson Timmons grounded out, and Robert Pierpoint hit a sacrifice fly, with each play producing a run.
Civic Memorial responded in the bottom of the third to move back in front. Brady Hasenjaeger drew a bases-loaded walk to force in a run, Evan Spurgeon followed with another bases-loaded walk, and Hudson Wesley hit a sacrifice fly that brought home two runs.
Godar doubled in the fourth inning and added singles in the fifth and sixth.
Rust earned the win for Civic Memorial, allowing two hits and three runs over six innings. The runs were unearned. Rust struck out eight and walked four.
Dylan Schaefer started for Gibault Catholic and allowed four hits and five runs over three innings. Three of the runs were earned. He struck out one and walked five.
Civic Memorial finished with 13 hits. Spurgeon, the No. 7 hitter, drove in three runs and went 1-for-3. Chase Butler, Luke Clouser, Rust, and Jacob Flowers each had multiple hits. Hasenjaeger drew two of Civic Memorial’s six walks, and the team had five stolen bases.
Timmons led Gibault Catholic with one RBI. Gus Schmidt and Steven Schaefer each had a hit.
