

HARDIN - The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office said a 45-year-old Pleasant Hill resident was arrested late April 4, 2026, after authorities were notified of a “rolling domestic disturbance in progress” on Pump Station Road in northwest Calhoun County.

The sheriff’s office said it was notified at 11:13 p.m. on that evening by West-Central 911 Dispatch, which coordinated efforts with the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, the Pike County Sheriff’s Department, and the Illinois State Police “in an effort to locate the moving vehicle.”
Deputy Skyler Lambeth with the Pike County Sheriff’s Department located the vehicle in Pleasant Hill, Pike County, and took a male suspect into custody, the sheriff’s office said. A trooper with the Illinois State Police and a deputy with the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office were also involved in the investigation and apprehension.
Following an investigation, the sheriff’s office said Justine L. Burse, 45, of Pleasant Hill, was arrested on these charges:
• Aggravated Domestic Battery – Strangulation
• Aggravated Domestic Battery
• Leaving the Scene of an Accident
Burse was arrested without incident, booked into the Pike County Jail, and is being held without bond, the sheriff’s office said.
“The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank West-Central 911 Dispatch for their efforts and outstanding work during this incident,” the sheriff’s office said, adding that it also thanked the Pike County Sheriff’s Office and the Illinois State Police for their assistance.
These charges, as well as the statements made herein, are based upon probable cause. The defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
