Teacher Appreciation Week: Brianna Wooley Reminds Students They Are Capable and Valued

BETHALTO - Brianna Wooley has always had a passion for helping others, and teaching was an obvious next step.

Wooley is a special education teacher for eighth grade students at Trimpe Middle School in the Bethalto Community Unit School District. This Teacher Appreciation Week, she is proud to know she is making a difference.

“From a young age, I felt drawn to helping people overcome obstacles, find confidence in themselves, and succeed. I’ve always wanted to inspire others, especially those who may need it the most or who may not always see their own potential. That passion ultimately led me to work in education,” she shared.

“I chose special education because I believe every student deserves to feel valued, capable, and supported, no matter what challenges they face. I wanted to be someone who could advocate for students who learn differently and help create opportunities for them to succeed both academically and personally.”

As a teacher, Wooley has found that her work goes beyond teaching content. It’s about helping kids grow as people. She helps students in her classroom learn “life skills, confidence, and a sense of self,” which will carry them through the rest of their lives.

Sometimes, by the time students reach Wooley’s classroom, they already believe they can’t succeed. This is challenging as a teacher but also heartbreaking for someone as passionate about student success as Wooley is. She works hard to motivate her students and remind them that they are capable, valued individuals.

Providing this support and encouragement is one of the most important parts of her job. She has also enjoyed mentoring other teachers in the special education department and working with her colleagues to build up the program.

Outside of the classroom, Wooley enjoys reading, watching her daughters play sports, swimming and boating. She is proud of the work she does to support her colleagues and her students, and she hopes she can continue to inspire kids to try, grow and succeed.

“It has opened so many doors for me to continue learning, reflecting, and growing as an educator, while also supporting others as they begin their journey,” she added. “I love building relationships with my students. Getting to know who they are, what motivates them, and how they learn best allows me to support them in a meaningful way.”
