Jersey County Coroner Identifies Victim In Fatal Crash

JERSEY COUNTY - A Jerseyville man who died late Sunday, May 3, 2026, after a one-car crash on Delhi Road near Hill Drive in Jersey County has been identified by the Jersey County Coroner's Office.

Jersey County Coroner Kevin Ayres identified the victim as Ronald L. Barnett, 56, of Jerseyville. The Jersey County Sheriff’s Office received the accident call at 11:38 a.m. Sunday, May 3, 2026. Barnett was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:57 a.m., Ayres said.

Coroner Ayres said Barnett’s death was ruled “due to blunt trauma” from the crash.

Jersey County Sheriff Nick Manns said the investigation determined it was a one-car accident.

“The vehicle left the roadway as it was traveling downhill and struck a tree,” Manns said. “The driver, a 56-year-old male from Jerseyville, was killed. A 33-year-old female passenger was severely injured and flown to a St. Louis hospital for treatment.”

No other details about the accident could be released at this time.

Graveside services for Barnett will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 7, 2026, at St. Francis Cemetery in Jerseyville. A celebration of life will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 9, 2026, at the Alton VFW.
