EDWARDSVILLE - Jaimee Henderson loves getting to know her students.
Henderson teaches math at Edwardsville High School. She also spent several years as a coach. This Teacher Appreciation Week, she is thankful for the opportunity to teach — and learn from — these kids.
“I’ve always loved helping people. I enjoyed my school experiences growing up and know that having dedicated teachers to guide me through is a big part of that,” she shared. “It’s so great seeing students be proud of themselves and also working through misunderstandings in math class with their peers. Every day is different!”
Henderson loves when a student understands a concept that they previously found challenging. Their excitement always makes her smile.
While she was a coach, Henderson enjoyed getting to know her students in a different environment. She loved cheering them on both in and out of the classroom. Though she no longer coaches, she still serves as her students’ biggest cheerleader.
It can be difficult to keep every student engaged and motivated at times. Henderson deeply values knowing her students, which is sometimes challenging to do because she only has them for an hour at a time.
But she works hard to connect with each one, and she looks forward to the opportunities she has to get to know them beyond their academics or behavior in class.
Outside of school, Henderson enjoys crafting and spending time with her family and dogs. She offers event and wedding planning services on the side, which brings her a lot of joy.
But teaching is one of her greatest passions, and she comes to school each day with a sense of excitement to greet her students, provide them with a supportive environment, and encourage them through every lesson.
“I love being a part of Edwardsville High School,” she added. “Teenagers have such a unique perspective on life. Getting to witness their academic and social growth in the classroom is inspiring. I hope that the small amount of time that they spend in my classroom leaves an impact and encourages them to love learning and to love math and most of all be confident in their abilities and potential!”
Thank you to Mrs. Henderson for your work as a teacher!
