GLEN CARBON - St. Anthony’s Bulldogs outlasted the Father McGivney Catholic Griffins 11-10 on Thursday at Father McGivney Catholic High School, using Aiden Lauritzen’s solo home run in the top of the eighth inning to break a 10-all tie.

The game was tied at 10 when Lauritzen homered to right field, giving St. Anthony the lead for good. Father McGivney Catholic stayed within striking distance throughout, but could not answer after the go-ahead shot.
Father McGivney Catholic opened the scoring in the first inning when Scott Phelps doubled to drive in a run. The Griffins added two more in the second on Ty Etcheson’s home run to left field.
St. Anthony took the lead in the third when Charley Spour hit a grand slam to center field to make it 4-3. Father McGivney Catholic tied it in the fourth on an Etcheson groundout, but Spour’s single in the fifth put St. Anthony back in front, 5-4.
The Griffins tied it again in the bottom of the fifth on Jack Rolves’ sacrifice bunt. St. Anthony moved ahead in the sixth after Will Bierman doubled to left field and Lauritzen walked, with each play driving in a run.
Father McGivney Catholic responded with five runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 10-7 lead, highlighted by Isaac Wendler’s grand slam to left field on an 0-2 count. St. Anthony tied it in the seventh on Chase Dorris’ home run to center field and a Henry Brent flyout.
Hayden Bushur earned the win for St. Anthony, allowing no hits and no runs over two innings with one strikeout and no walks. Paddy Martin took the loss for Father McGivney Catholic after allowing four runs (three earned) on two hits over 2 2/3 innings, with one strikeout and three walks.
Jacoby Danco started for Father McGivney Catholic and allowed five hits and six runs over five innings, striking out seven and walking three. Lauritzen started for St. Anthony and gave up nine hits and five runs over five innings, striking out four and walking three.
Father McGivney Catholic finished with 11 hits. Wendler led the Griffins with four RBIs and went 2-for-4. Wendler, Phelps and Etcheson each had two hits, and Grant Reed drew two walks as the Griffins totaled seven walks and turned one double play.
Lauritzen and Spour each had two hits for St. Anthony while batting back-to-back. Spour led the Bulldogs with five RBIs and went 2-for-5. Andrew Wagner drew two walks as St. Anthony totaled eight walks.
