Byron, Carlson, Petri & Kalb Male Athletes Of The Month: Father McGIvney Boys Shine In Gateway Conference Track and Field Meet

GLEN CARBON - Rainy conditions set the backdrop for a strong day from Father McGivney Catholic High School’s boys track and field teams as the Griffins finished second at the recent Gateway Conference Boys Meet, highlighted by a conference championship in the 4x800 relay, a win in the 800 meters, and pole vault.

Father McGivney finished second in the meet with 121 points behind Metro East Lutheran with 121 points.

“Our track & field teams powered through tough conditions and delivered an incredible showing,” Coach Shannon said.

The McGivney boys track and field team members are Byron, Carlson, Petri & Kalb Male Athletes of the Month for the Griffins.

Father McGivney’s 4x800 team of Eric Rybak, Eli Germann, Henry Mathews and Will Rakers won with a conference championship time of 8:28.61. Liam Schmidt won the 800 meters in 2:00.38, and Caleb Payne won the pole vault at 4.11 meters.

Owen Weissert placed second in the 100 meters in 11.56 and was fourth in the 200 in 23.64. The Griffins' Eddie Foppe was second in the 110-meter high hurdles in 15.91.

In other results, Gus Range was third in the 800 in 2:02.63, with Connor Schmidt fourth in 2:06.55. Liam Schmidt was fifth in the 1,600 in 5:03.41, and Aiden Schmidt was fifth in the 3,200 in 11:06.45.

The 4x200 relay team of Carson Oller, Andrew Leonelli, Joey Seefeldt and John Pierre placed second in 1:38.16. The 4x100 relay of Oller, Leonelli, Seefeldt and Pierre was fourth in 46.86.

In field events, Owen Kolesa was second in the high jump at 1.66 meters. Foppe was fifth in the long jump at 5.82 meters.

Seefeldt and Kolesa finished second and third in the triple jump at 11.79 meters and 11.35 meters, and Mason Roseman was fourth in the shot put at 12.43 meters.
