
EDWARDSVILLE – The Edwardsville Community Unit School District 7 Board of Education approved a contract for Dr. Allen Duncan Jr. to serve as superintendent during its work session on Tuesday, May 12, 2026. Duncan was appointed interim superintendent on January 12, 2026, after serving as acting superintendent since September 25, 2025. His appointment as superintendent will officially begin on July 1, 2026.

Dr. Duncan brings deep institutional knowledge and a strong commitment to District 7, having spent his entire professional career serving the Edwardsville community. Duncan most recently served as assistant superintendent, a role he assumed in July 2024. Prior to that, he was the principal of Liberty Middle School for four years, following five years as assistant principal. He began his career in District 7 as a social studies teacher at Edwardsville High School.
“I am overjoyed and deeply humbled to serve as the next superintendent of Edwardsville Community Unit School District 7,” said Duncan. “The trust placed in me by the Board of Education, our dedicated staff, our families, and especially our students is a profound honor I do not take lightly and for which I am grateful every single day.
“Edwardsville has long been a community that believes in the power of education and the promise it holds for every child. I share that belief wholeheartedly. I am inspired by the strong foundation already in place and energized by the opportunities that lie ahead.

In 2022, Duncan was recognized as the Illinois Principals Association Southwest Region Middle School Principal of the Year.

Duncan holds a bachelor’s degree in education from Illinois State University and master’s, specialist, and doctoral degrees in education from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
