Illinois State Police Conduct Major Crime Sweep in Metro East

The two-day operation in St. Clair and Madison counties resulted in 23 arrests, 33 criminal charges, and 11 firearms seized or recovered, according to Illinois State Police.

EAST ST. LOUIS – Illinois State Police (ISP) conducted a violent crime suppression detail on May 13 and 14, 2026, in St. Clair and Madison counties, focusing its efforts on East St. Louis and neighboring Metro East communities. ? The operation utilized intelligence and technology to focus enforcement efforts on known high crime areas, violent offenders, and structured criminal groups in the communities of the Metro East.

There were some notable arrests during the detail:

On May 13, 2026, Troopers received information about subjects in the area of Bond Avenue in Cahokia Heights armed with firearms. Troopers located a subject running and clutching his waistline. Troopers pursued the subject and took him into custody. A search of the area yielded a loaded firearm previously reported stolen. The subject was then transported to jail.

On May 14, 2026, Troopers conducted a traffic stop for an Illinois Vehicle Code (IVC) violation near the intersection of 42nd Street and Brady Avenue in Cahokia Heights. During a probable cause search, Troopers recovered a loaded firearm, live ammunition, and suspected cannabis. Both vehicle occupants were arrested and transported to jail.

ISP officers from around the state, including Troops 6, 7, 8, and 10 patrol, ISP Fatal 4 South, Zone 6 Firearms Investigations Unit, Public Safety Enforcement Group (PSEG), Crime Scene Services, ISP SWAT, ISP Air Operations, and FBI, assisted ISP Statewide Anti-Violence Enforcement (SAVE) South with this multi-day operation. The Metropolitan Enforcement Group of Southern Illinois provided additional support.

ISP will continue to use all available resources, including air operations, technology, forensic services, investigators, increase patrols, and information sharing to combat violent crime.
