FATHER MCGIVNEY CATHOLIC 10, SALEM 0: Natalie Beck had a double brace (four goals), Sofia Rossetto had a brace (two goals), and Kinley Dettmers, Layla Tobin, Erin Kretzer, and Bristol Ellis all scored in McGivney's playoff opening win at Breese Central.
Peyton Ellis and Addison Ronk shared the clean sheet in goal for the Griffins, who are now 18-2-3, while the Wildcats end their season at 9-12-1.
In the second semifinal, Breese Mater Dei Catholic got past Breese Central 1-0. The Griffins and Knights will meet for the regional championship on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
In a Class 2A regional semifinal, Waterloo eliminated Carbondale 7-0.
Several Games Rained Out
Almost the entire local high school sports schedule, including IHSA playoff games in girls' soccer and softball, was disrupted by the rain. The games that were rained out yesterday were:
