Advances In Three Events: Oberkfell Shines In 1A Gillespie Sectional

Southwestern's Springman, Maryville Christian's King also claims first places in state qualifier.

Chaz Oberkfell.GILLESPIE - Gillespie's Chaz Oberkfell was right at home at the 1A Boys Track and Field Sectional competition on Wednesday, May 20, 2026.

It showed in the final results as he qualified in three events for next weekend's Illinois State Track and Field Boys Meet. He was third in the 800 (2:00.18).

Southwestern's Thor Springman and Chase Kallal were fourth and fifth in the 800 race with times of 2:01.65 and 2:02.46. Maryville Christian's Chase Lading was sixth (2:04.49) and Carlinville's Henry Truax was eighth (2:07.19).

Oberkfell was first in the 1,600 meters (4:30.29) and Kallal was fifth (4:48.88), Chase Lading was sixth (4:52.40) and Aiden Green of Staunton was seventh (4:54.79) and Gillespie's Carter Sies was eighth (5:00.79 and Andrew Price of Carrollton was ninth (5:01.62).

Oberkfell was second in the 3,200 with a time of 10:06.74. Thor Springman won the 3,200 (10:05.30).

Gillespie was fifth in the meet with 58 points, Litchfield won the meet with 106.33 points and Carlinville was second with 100.33 points.

Tristan Thompson was fourth in the 100 (11.81) and Joel White was fifth (11.81).

In the 200 meters, Cade King of Maryville Christian was fourth (23.44).

Staunton's Shane Oller was third in the 400 meters (52.51) and Caden Kuechle of Staunton was sixth (54.47).

Cade King of Maryville Christian won the 110-meter high hurdles (15.81), Carter Chapman of Greenfield-Northwestern was fifth (16.82) and Lucas Dillon of Staunton sixth (17.56).

King won the 300 hurdles (41.37), Jason Hoots of Greenfield was fourth (42.51) and Kaden Matuska of Southwestern was fifth (44.23).

Carlinville's 4 x 100 relay advanced in second place (44.44) with Konneker, Tristan Thompson, Duckels and White as members. Carlinville advanced in second in the 4 x 40 0relay (3:31.72). Carlinville was second in the 4 x 800 relay (8:14.18).

Corbin Walton of Carlinville continued the school's long-standing weights tradition with a first in the shot put (14.62 meters).

Drake Smith of Greenfield was second in the high jump (1.92 meters) to qualify.

Austin Homer of Carlinville won the pole vault (4.30 meters). Dane Diesselhorst of Gillespie also qualified in third (3.85 meters), Faizon Laplante of Calrinville was fourth (3.85 meters) and also qualified.

Braylen Brown of Staunton won the long jump and qualified (6.16 meters).
